Here is Some Helpful Information on HOW TO SELECT A Professional Carpet Cleaning Company
What distinguishes one carpet cleaning company from another?
When shopping for a service you may want to consider some of these things:
Do They Have Good References?
American Carpet Cleaning is considered by many carpet retailers and interior designers as one of the most reliable carpet cleaning companies in the Los Angeles and Ventura County area. We are often referred by some of the most seasoned professionals in the industry for our expertise. Our references are available upon request.
What Kind Of Experience Do They Have?
We have over 25 years experience in carpet cleaning. We have handled many specialty items and have seen many unusual situations. Whether the carpet is natural or synthetic, our experience makes us one of the areas most respected carpet cleaning companies.
Are They Well Educated in Their Field?
American Carpet Cleaning is certified by the IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification), the most recognized certification organization of its type in the country. Attending educational courses, reading trade journals and being heavily involved in our industry, allows us to stay abreast of all the latest techniques and procedures. Many carpet manufacturers recommend only firms certified by the IICRC.
Which Systems Do They Use?
American Carpet Cleaning uses the most advanced systems on the market today. The systems we use do not leave excess moisture in the backing of the carpet and do not leave a sticky residue behind to attract soil. You can expect maximum soil removal and the pile of the carpet will be “standing tall” again.
Do You Get What You Bargain For?
NEVER select a carpet cleaner based on price. A low priced service could actually damage your carpet. The pricing American Carpet Cleaning offers is an excellent value for the quality of service we provide.
Do They Use Top Quality Products?
American Carpet Cleaning vans are stocked with only the very highest quality products from top manufacturers. We refuse to use discount products that tend to leave sticky residues behind or cause other problems. You can be assured that our products are effective, efficient and safe for your carpet, the consumer, and the environment. If a spot can be removed, we have what it takes to remove it.
Do They Guarantee Their Work?
American Carpet Cleaning's commitment to excellent service remains as always. Our satisfaction guarantee states that if you are not completely satisfied with our work, we will return at no charge to make the job right. If we are unable to satisfy you, we will offer a complete refund.
How long does the carpet cleaning process take?
About 1 hour per 300-500 cleanable square feet. This varies depending on soil and job.
How soon can I walk on it?
Keep pets, children and regular traffic off carpet for a period of 4-6 hours. The homeowner may use the carpet lightly immediately after cleaning by wearing white socks. Wait 24 hours before removing Styrofoam blocks and foil tabs that are put in place to protect the furniture and carpet. Some carpets may still feel slightly damp for up to 18 hours depending on carpet and soiling condition. This is normal and will not cause any problems.
Do you move the furniture?
Our regular pricing includes moving sofas, chairs, tables, end tables, etc. Beds, dressers and heavier pieces are left in place under our normal pricing structure.
Can you clean carpet or rugs over hardwood floors?
Yes, we have our system set up where the backing of the carpet or rug is not saturated; therefore, no problem with wood floors underneath. No problem with edges either. Our rinse does not affect hardwood floors, however if you prefer, we can use plastic or carpet padding under edge of rug while cleaning to prevent any solution from coming in contact with floor around edge of rug.
Do you clean...?
Berber- Absolutely. Berber is a weave, not a particular type of fabric. Berber is simply a type of loop construction that may come in olefin, nylon, wool, or a blend. Berber requires a more thorough cleaning than other carpets because the “flushing” action needs to take place to get under, around, and through the loops. Other companies that are not as thorough, have a number of problems with Berber because they leave soil behind that “wicks” back to the surface.
Sisal, sea-grass, grass- Yes, dry-clean only, unless last resort spot cleaning. Spot cleaning and extraction can cause discoloration or water rings on sisal.
Wool- Yes, we have special products that we use for wool. We clean wool often. We use lower pressure, lower temperature and take special drying precautions for cleaning wool.
Haitian cotton- Yes, we have special Haitian cotton cleaner, or we can dry-clean it. Case by case.
Silk, rayon, chintz - Yes.
Carpet Warranty Information
Shaw Industries, the largest carpet mill in the world, recommends the hot water extraction system, which research indicates hot water extraction provides the best capability for cleaning. This system is commonly referred to as "steam cleaning," although no steam is actually generated. The process consists of spraying a solution of water and cleaners into the carpet pile and recovering the water and soil with a powerful vacuum into a holding tank. This can be done from a truck-mounted unit outside the home with only the hose and wand brought inside.
Professional Carpet Cleaners - It is to your advantage to use professional cleaners because their experience enables them to do a better job than you can do yourself. Their equipment has more extraction power than the rental units available to you, and the carpet should dry more quickly. True professionals have also made the investment in training to understand the equipment, to know the proper cleaning agents for the situation at hand, and to recognize the differences in fibers and carpet construction.
Shaw Industries recommends an IICRC technician (Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification).
Professional Cleaning - Generally, professional cleaning by a certified firm, should take place once per year. Many stain resist warranties require professional cleaning every 6 to 24 months or your warranty is void. This removes toxic pollutants for health reasons and helps with the performance of your carpet. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification, Carpet Rug Institute and your carpet manufacture, they recommend hot water extraction every 6 to 12 months for health reasons. This is the industries minimum standard for the consumers’ protection.
When it comes to maintaining your carpet, one of the most critical areas of focus is the traffic area. If ground in soil is not removed on a regular basis, the traffic areas will begin to wear excessively. The dirt is extremely abrasive against the fibers of the carpet as you walk back and forth on it. The second area of focus, of course, is spot removal. You must react to “danger” spots immediately. Red wine, red beverages, urine, blood, etc. can cause a permanent stain if not treated immediately. Listed below are the steps that you must take to properly maintain your carpeting.
Vacuum your carpet often. Once or twice a week at least. Vacuuming removes the sharp soil that can cut and slice the fiber causing premature wear. Much of this soil is not visible to the eye. Vacuum before the carpet looks soiled. Remove any loose particles such as loose food, leaves, pieces of crayon, bugs, etc. as these items can cause a spot on the carpet.
2. Professional Cleaning
As a general rule, professional cleaning by a professional, certified firm, should take place about once per year. Many stain resist warranties require professional cleaning every 12 to 24 months. Professional cleaning removes the damaging soil from the traffic areas that vacuuming has not been able to remove.
WARNING: Uninformed carpet cleaners may void the warranty.
Stain resist warranties can vary from 5 to 20 years. All stain resist warranties require regular cleaning and immediate spot removal.
There is a right way and a wrong way to clean up accidental spills on your carpet. What you should not do is just as important as what you should do. Today’s new carpets resist spots better than those manufactured even a few years ago. However, they are still susceptible to spots and should be treated quickly to avoid a permanent stain.
» Step 1: Blot up as much of the spill as you can. Make sure you blot – do not scrub. Scrubbing will only work the spill deeper into the fiber and may leave a wear mark. Use a white paper or white cotton towel to blot. Fold the towel and press it into the spill. Rotate the towel often so a clean surface is always against the carpet. Continue to blot until no more of the spill transfers to the towel. Remove any solid material with a rounded spoon or the edge of a dull knife.
» Step 2: Cover the blotted area with a fresh, white towel. Weigh the towel with something that will not transfer color to the carpet or the towel. Leave this in place for 15-20 minutes to remove any remaining spill. Should the carpet remain stained by the spill, go to step three.
» Step 3: Spotting the remaining stain in your carpet requires care and patience. You cannot apply most household cleaners to the stain without further damaging the carpet. Many common cleaners contain dyes that will discolor the carpet, or chemicals that will permanently set the stain. Refer to your manufacturer recommendations for further spotting tips. If this information is not available, you can attempt to remove most common household spills with the following procedure. Mix a teaspoon of colorless, mild detergent in a cup of lukewarm water. To test the safety of the solution, apply several drops to an inconspicuous area (closet, under a sofa) and rub gently with a clean, white towel. Do not proceed if any carpet color transfers to the towel, or if the carpet’s color changes. Try an alternate cleaner or call a professional. If the test is successful, spot the stain by alternately applying a few drops of cleaner, followed by blotting. Always blot, never scrub. Work from the outer edge of the stain to the center. Continue this process until the stain is gone or no more color transfers to the white towel. The final step is to gently rinse the area with clear water, then absorb all the remaining moisture with absorbent towels.
Should a stain persist, contact American Carpet Cleaning for assistance. We may be able to offer further advice by phone, or if necessary, we’ll dispatch a technician with a complete spotting kit to treat the stain.
5. Protective Coatings
Residential carpets are treated with stain resist properties and soil resistors. The soil resistor will help the soil slide off the carpet easier when vacuuming, spots will be easier to remove, and professional cleaning will be more effective.
After Your Carpeting is Cleaned
1. Be careful walking from carpet to hard surfaces. Floors can be very slippery.
2. Keep pets and children off carpet for at least 6 hours.
3. Remove blocks and tabs from underneath furniture 24 hours after carpet is cleaned.
4. Vacuum carpet anytime after 24-hour period.
